The Price Tag

Genuine Paul Smith Price Tags come in many different shapes, sizes and colours, depending upon the line from which the garment originates. For example, a tag from the ‘London’ line of formal shirts, suits and ties will be different to a tag from the ‘Jeans’ line of casual clothing. However, all Paul Smith price tags will be made from card, usually dark coloured externally, with a contrasting colour on the interior. They will be attached to the garment with a piece of string, fastened with a paperclip. Many fakes will simply use cheap, poor quality plastic ties that you would expect to find on low quality clothing, in a bid to cut their costs. The tags will be printed with a Paul Smith logo on the front, and inside will be details of the garment itself. There should be no spelling mistakes whatsoever, and the print will be very high quality with no smudging or imperfections.

Buttons

Authentic Paul Smith buttons are always high quality, and are usually embossed with a Paul Smith logo, or simply a PS. Many garments will use Mother of Pearl buttons, others will use plastics. The buttons will always be tightly stitched onto the garment, and this stitching should not come loose after a few days of wearing your piece of clothing. A great way to tell whether you have a fake is to check whether the garment came with spare buttons or not. Paul Smith will always include a spare set of buttons with any garment which may need them.

The Neck Label

The Neck Label on an authentic Paul Smith T-Shirt will be white in colour, and stitched to the garment at both ends with tight, neat stitching. A small signature Multistripe tag will protrude from the top, and a small tag detailing the size will be attached to the bottom. The tag itself will bear the Paul Smith Logo, beneath which it should say ‘T-SHIRT’ in capitals. If the hyphen is missing, or the words are not in capitals, you probably have a fake.

On genuine Paul Smith London Formal Shirts, the neck label will be fully stitched into the garment on all sides. The label will be a small black rectangle, with the Paul Smith logo in white, subtitled by the word LONDON in capitals. Again, if this is not in capitals, you probably have a fake.

The Care Label

On a genuine Paul Smith T-Shirt, there will be two separate care labels stitched into the left hand seam of the garment. The larger label outlines washing instructions in up to seven different languages. The smaller label will outline where the garment was manufactured. In our example, the T-Shirt was Made in China.

On a genuine Paul Smith London Formal Shirt, the care label can be found close to the spare button, which is embroidered onto the front of the shirt, on the interior. There are two labels, which are stitched onto the same point. The larger outlines washing instructions, and the smaller indicates where the garment was manufactured. In our example, the shirt was Made in Italy.
