Ed Hardy
Manufacturing Location
Genuine Ed Hardy T-shirts are produced in various different countries around the world, including China, Indonesia, USA, Mexico and Portugal. Do not assume you have a fake if you see your T-shirt has been made in China.
The Neck Label
One of the best ways to tell a real Ed Hardy T-shirt from a fake is by using the neck label. It should be a fairly long rectangular white label sewn into the shirt through the top edge of the label only. Any neck label that is sewn at the top and bottom edge or all the way around the label is fake. Short folded neck labels also indicate that the item is fake. The neck label should have a bulldog in a chequered hat and yellow necklace – any neck label with a tiger instead is fake.
The Serial Number Label
This label can be found inside the T-shirt. Fake T-shirts can never replicate the “micro-stitch” that is used by Ed Hardy on this label. Fakes will usually have a white line at the bottom of the label beneath where it says the serial number. The stitching used on the serial number looks very thick and poor quality in comparison to the fine detailed font used on the genuine Ed Hardy T-Shirt.
The Rhinestones
Not all Ed Hardy T-shirts have rhinestones, but for those that do, this effect is extremely hard to replicate by counterfeiters. They often misalign the T-shirt in the machine when doing this process, leading to the rhinestones being placed outside the printed T-shirt design like that shown in the picture. Obviously this is an indication of poor workmanship and poor quality, so if any rhinestones are found outside the “tattoo” artwork, then you almost certainly have a fake.
“By Christian Audigier”
This only applies to some Ed Hardy designs. Genuine Ed Hardy T-shirts sometimes say “By Christian Audigier” underneath the left armpit. If this is done beneath the right armpit then the item is fake. Also, some counterfeiters cannot afford to print another design underneath the armpit so will try to squeeze this onto the front of the T-shirt instead.
The Logo
The logo on the back of the T-shirt has quickly become one of the most recognisable logos in the fashion industry. Some of the worst fakes fail to replicate the tattoo ink appearance of the logo, where the writing is slightly imperfect as it would be when drawn by a human rather than a computer. If the writing is completely smooth, unlike the style shown in the picture, then the item is fake.
