The Price Tag

The Price Tag on Abercrombie & Fitch clothing will usually be attached through the Abercrombie patch label inside the garment. The lettering on the tag must be centered perfectly; if not, you own a fake. The price tags are made of a rough feeling yellow card which has the words "Abercrombie & Fitch” written in bold. If the material is smooth, glossy, or white in colour, the garment is a fake. On the reverse of the tag it should say “Abercrombie & Fitch” followed by a series of numbers, and a barcode. Underneath the barcode it will specify whether the garment is Mens, Womens, Boys or Girls, and this lettering will be in capitals. This will be followed by the size, also in capitals. All lettering on the tag must be in bold, unfaded typeface.

The Interior Patch

Although it sounds obvious, make sure that the words on the A&F patch are spelt correctly. If any letters are unreadable, or if there are any mistakes, then you definitely have a fake.  The patch will be stitched into the garment material firmly and neatly, but do not confuse the subtle nicks that genuine garments have for a fake - these imperfections are created by Abercrombie to give a worn-in look. The Patch should be made from a high quality material like satin, and should feel smooth to the touch. It should also appear shiny under lights. When viewing the exterior of the garment, the outline stitching of the patch will be visible on the authentic garments.

Material Quality

Abercrombie & Fitch only ever use very high quality material for their clothing. By simply feeling the material, you should be able to tell whether it is a fake or not. If you are not instantly impressed, then it is unlikely that the item is genuine. Abercrombie clothing is expensive because of the high quality materials used, and if the garment doesn’t feel excellent, you have probably bought a fake.

Metal Studs etc.

The zipper on your item, if indeed it has one, should fasten up easily and stay secure when fastened. If it is easily undone by pulling the jacket apart from the top when the zipper is supposed to be closed, or it is hard to do up, then you may have a replica on your hands. The zip itself should also have some kind of A&F logo or moose engraving on it, if not, it’s a fake. Any metal studs on your item will say Abercrombie & Fitch on them, or at least A&F. If it says anything else it is most definitely fake. Some older A&F clothing may not have the writing on the metal studs. If any part of your item, (especially hoodies and more expensive products) has plastic on it, it may also indicate a fake. All the studs and zippers will be made of metal if your item is authentic.

The Smell

Every genuine Abercrombie & Fitch garment will smell of the Abercrombie trademark fragrance, ‘Fierce’. Obviously, a retailer selling fake A&F can just spray some of this on, so use this rule only in conjunction with the previous ones.

We recommend that you always buy from FakesRevealed Certified Retailers, to ensure that the items you buy are authentic. A list of trusted retailers can be found by clicking the Retailers link at the top of the page.
